About

We are #doingitforSimon

Simon has always loved a challenge. He has spent the last decade challenging himself with running events, from 17 minute parkruns to 7 marathons in 7 days, to 110 mile ultras in less than 30 hrs and even the elusive 3 hour marathon. Simon undertook all these events with huge practical and emotional support from family and friends. Simon in turn gave so much to the running community, taking on roles such as parkrun Event Director & Run Director, the Chair of York Postal Harriers but also encouraging and mentoring so many people along the way.

Now it is our turn to challenge ourselves and give a bit back. Simon was admitted to York Hospital on 21st November 2024, he was scared and very unwell. Some amazing professionals saved Simon's life, cared for him at his most vulnerable, believed he could recover and finally got him to his next checkpoint on 22nd January 2025. Simon's rehabilitation journey continues but he is is as motivated as ever to meet it head on!

Simon would like to recognise the many, many heroes who helped him along his journey from ED, Radiology, Coronary Care Unit, Acute Stroke, Vascular Imaging, Cardio-Respiratory, Intensive Care, Microbiology, Physiotherapy, Speech and Language Therapy, Pharmacy, Dietetics, Occupational Therapy, Catering and Housekeeping. As well as recognising all those members of the corporate and clinical teams who kept his wife, Lucy, going through some very dark hours.

We want to fundraise for the York and Scarborough Hospital Charity in recognition of our gratitude. Grab your trainers, believe in yourself and get out there.
Together, we can achieve something amazing #doitforSimon
