Swimmers of all abilities are invited to join us at the Great North Swim! A weekend-long celebration of open-water swimming, and we have places on the 1-mile challenge!

FAQ's

When is the Great North Swim?

The Great North Swim takes places in Windermere, Lake District on between 7th – 9th June 2024! 

When you confirm your place, you’ll choose your start time. The start times are spread across Friday 7th, Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th June.

Am I able to swim further than 1-mile?

Our charity places are only for the 1-mile distance. At the wider event you can choose from six different open water swimming distances to suit all ages, abilities, and level of experience. More information at www.greatswim.org/great-north-swim

What swimming ability do I need to be to swim 1-mile?

The 1 mile is suitable for swimmers of all abilities and is equivalent to 64 lengths of a standard 25m pool. The average completion time is approx 40 minutes. You can choose to enjoy a leisurely breaststroke while taking in the scenery or kick in to crawl for a faster time 

Is there an age restriction for participants?

We are not allowed to accept places for under 16's.

Is there a minimum fundraising target?

We encourage participants to raise £150. Your sponsorship will also go towards supporting staff and patients who visit our hospitals across the Trust.

Can I raise sponsorship offline?

Yes you can. Get in touch and we can provide sponsorships form and we can supply you with collecting tins and personalised posters for those local shops and pubs.

Can I decide which hospital my money goes towards?

Yes – simply let us know if you have a specific department that you would like to support.
What happens once I've signed up?

Once you've signed up to the challenge you will receive your welcome email, with instructions about how to redeem your place. Once your place has been redeemed, you'll be able to set up a fundraising page to help you reach your target!

Is transport or accommodation provided?

No, we do not put on any transport or accommodation. More information about the day will be provided once registered.
